About PDO Thread Lift at Neu Look Medical Spa in San Diego

Neu Look Medical Spa in San Diego, CA is known for being up-to-date on all cosmetic treatments that are typically offered in medical spas. A newer procedure, PDO Thread Lift, that has been done for years in other countries was recently FDA approved for the United States within the last two years. According to the National Laser Institute, PDO Thread Lift, is a “Non-surgical face lift utilizing monofilament fibers, which dissolve over time, to lift and reposition the skin in order to accentuate the cheeks, diminish the jowls and tighten the jawline.” The threads are made out of a well-known material that is used in pediatric cardiac surgeries, and can also be used in many other areas of the body besides the face and neck.

How to Prepare for Your PDO Thread Lift

To prepare for your PDO Thread Lift, there are a couple of precautionary things you should do. Such as:

  • Ensure there is no inflammation already present in the body the days leading up to or on your treatment day.
  • Get any dental work that you are unable to post-pone out of the way, you will not be able to see a dentist for approximately two weeks.
  • Avoid taking any blood-thinning medications or blood-clotting medications approximately two days before your treatment day.
  • Try to limit bodily and emotional stressors prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol the night before your treatment.

Important Things to Note About the PDO Thread Lift

Inflammation presently in the body and physical or emotional stressors can enhance the bodies response to the trauma caused by the PDO Thread Lift, even though the treatment is mild and very safe. In the same way, bringing stress and anxiety into the treatment room can sometimes bring unnecessary discomfort and prolong a rather short healing process. A healthy mindset and trust in your practitioner can help your treatment go smoother and have an overall better experience.

Although PDO Thread Lift is a wonderful treatment, it does not replace the use of dermal fillers. It does however accentuate fillers and help you to get an even better result with your filler treatment. The PDO Thread Lift was designed to pull loose skin back, to a degree, while the filler is responsible for replacing the fat that was lost due to the aging process. A consultation at Neu Look Medical Spa will be required to determine how effective the lifting treatment will be for you based on how much loose skin has already been accumulated. When using these two treatments in conjunction with one another, you will receive the best possible result.

Types of Treatments

As we stated earlier, there are many possible treatment areas such as aging knees, breast, the buttocks, loose belly skin and more. The treatment area will determine which thread is to be used. The MEDiTHREAD website informs us, “There are many types of PDO threads and this can be confusing for patients. In general, PDO threads can be divided into Smooth threads and Barbed threads.

  • Smooth threads are used to stimulate collagen.
  • Barbed threads are used to lift and reposition the skin.

PDO threads come in different thicknesses and lengths. These all affect their quality, tensile strength, effectiveness, and of course, price of your treatment. Your doctor may choose to use different kind of threads for you, depending on your rejuvenation and skin lifting needs.”

Benefits of Laser Hair Reduction (aka “Removal”)

Laser Hair Removal at Neu Look Med Spa in San Diego

The Struggle is Real

At Neu Look Medical Spa in San Diego, California, we consider it summertime year-round. With almost perfect weather for shorts all year , your skin always needs to be ready! We offer all of the treatment essentials such as spray tanning, IPL Laser (for red and brown discolorations) and most importantly Laser Hair Reduction or “Removal”. Every female knows the struggle of always trying to achieve smooth skin with the results ending in stubble, razor bumps, and ingrown hairs . Men can also struggle with folliculitis (white or red pimple like dots surrounding the hair follicle) and ingrown hairs that can potentially cause scaring on their face, typically in their beard area.

Laser Hair Removal Vs. Waxing

Some people get waxed regularly, which is much less time consuming than shaving. Waxing is an effective method of hair removal for most people but it can be expensive in the long run. Many people experience skin irritation that can be itchy, unsightly and painful for days after their service. It is also common for ingrown hairs to form under the skin, especially if the client has thick or course hair.

If you are hoping to find a treatment that is a worthwhile investment, Laser Hair Reduction (Removal) is a wise choice. Our Nurse Practitioner, Gita Izadi, will use the Lumenis (Light Sheer Desire) Laser to quickly treat the hair that is in the anagen stage (growing phase). Multiple treatments will be required to achieve the best possible result as we are trying to eliminate all the hair growth cycles. On average, 5-7 treatments that are between 4-6 weeks apart are needed for optimal results. Laser Hair Reduction has been FDA approved to last a minimum of 2-4 years with patients needing occasional touchups. Some treatment areas, such as lip or underarms, can even be completed in less than 10 minutes.

Preparation

To prepare for this treatment you need to shave the area that that will be lasered. It is important to not tan for 7 to 10 days before (or after) treatment, this includes Spray Tanning. Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs. The treated hair will continue to appear 7-30 days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin. In some cases you may experience Folliculitis or slight inflammation of the hair follicles, if this occurs you can call Neu Look Medical Spa for advice on how you should treat that area.

Am I Too Young to Start Cosmetic Injections?

how young is too young for injections?

Legality of Treatments

Let’s face it, social media, and celebrities are making a huge impact on the upcoming generation of young adults. Young adults and teenagers are witnessing a whole new world of anti-wrinkle, lip and cheek injections becoming the new “norm”. Many individuals view cosmetic procedures as a way of self-expression. It is also to be noted that neither Botox nor any filler injection is permanent. However it is a medically prescribed treatment and should not be taken lightly. At Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center, in San Diego, legally, you qualify for any treatment at the age 18 years of age, with a consultation. But that doesn’t guarantee you will receive every treatment you desire, because at a young age, your body and face are still developing.

Uniqueness of Treatments

At Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center, we know that each patient is unique and some treatments are specifically to correct an asymmetry, imbalance or deformity to avoid surgery. Other patients want to achieve a specific appearance that they see themselves as in their mind. Some people believe that waiting until you are older is better due to your advanced physical and emotional maturity. There are some practitioners who say as long as you are over the age of 18 or past your later teen growth spurts that there is no reason to not receive Botox or Filler. Other providers state that it shouldn’t be started until someone is in their mid-to-late 20’s or 30 years of age. The general consensus between disagreeing parties is that it is all depending on what the younger patient wishes to achieve and why.

Fillers and Skin Damage

According to Coco Ruby Skin and Anti-Ageing Cosmetic Blog, “What the Kardashians are doing cosmetically might not suit your face or your lips. Plus, chances are that the younger you are when you first start getting cosmetic injections; the more likely it is that you might regret it over time. Just like those colorful tattoos you’re considering investing in (or already have).” Our NP Gita, at Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center, states that fillers will only stretch your skin or damage your appearance, long term, if it is injected incorrectly. “There is no treatment that I offer at my facility that is 100% permanent and I provide my patients with a thorough consultation before I make any decisions on treating them. I do not over treat anyone, to benefit financially, and I always do what is best for that unique individual based on their desires and my professional advice.

Botox and Dysport

Botox and Dysport are injected for many reasons such as anti-wrinkling, hyperhydrosis, headaches and more. Botox is manufactured by Allergan and Dysport is manufactured by Galderma. They are both Botulinum products. They essentially do the same thing except their molecular makeup is different. One unit of Botox is equivalent to three units of Dysport. Therefore, don’t think that you’ll need the same dosage. Our NP, Gita Izadi, likes to use Botox and Dysport for different areas of the face. It also depends on the patients and whether they prefer Botox or Dysport. They are both used to soften lines our patients develop on their faces.

Fine lines and wrinkles on your face have multiple causes. Many fine lines and wrinkles are from expressions we make on a daily basis but they are largely from genetics. “Everyone’s skin retains lines differently. Therefore, one patient may start developing deep set lines, that can be softened with Botox or Dysport, at the age of 30 and another patient may start forming a deep set line at the age of 22. The goal of Botox or Dysport is to prevent deep set lines that will need to be filled eventually. It is not bad to be cautious and proactive with your face,” Gita states. Meaning, if you feel as though you have lines that you want to be corrected, don’t avoid coming in to see our NP, Gita. Come in for a complimentary consultation and discuss your concerns with her.

Quality Over Pricing

At Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center, we suggest that at ANY age, when receiving ANY treatment, to choose QUALITY over pricing. With injections, you often get what you pay for. Sacrificing professionalism and experience for lower pricing is never a good idea. Cheaper practitioners and facilities are often guilty of diluting their product, injecting lesser quality fillers, or non-approved substances. Anyone can be at risk for a poor injection but many unprofessional facilities prey on younger potential patients using social media as a tool. Please do not fall prey to these practices.

Call Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center, at 858-538-5665. We’ll be glad to offer further information or advice on this topic. You can also email info@neulookskin.com to schedule your complimentary consultation or appointment.

6 Easy Tips to Stop Yourself from Picking Your Skin

6 Easy Tips to Stop Yourself from Picking Your Skin

Many people have the habit of picking their skin, and working at Neu Look gave us the experience all those people and witness the consequence of their behavior.  At Neu Look Med Spa we treat all types of acne and other skin conditions. We have a large variety of skin treatments that target anything from cystic acne to hyperpigmentaiton. In 2019 we are putting a focus on educating our current and new patients about skin health and how to prevent further impurities.

According to Psychology Today, “Excoriation disorder, or compulsive skin picking, dermatillomania is a psychological condition that manifests in the form of repetitive touching, scratchingpicking, and digging at one’s own skin.” We are all guilty of this compulsive action at some point or another, but unfortunately it may cause deep scaring that will be difficult and expensive to correct many years later. Medical News Today warns us against crater scaring in an article explaining, “Pockmarks are deep scars on the skin that do not usually go away on their own. They are often caused by severe acne but can also be the result of skin infections or chickenpox.” In some cases scaring is inevitable but in most, the majority can be prevented by simply using the correct skin regimen proscribed by your provider and keeping your hands off your face!

Another factor in scaring is your skin type according to the Fitzpatrick Scale. It is a way to estimate how your skin tone or type can tolerate sun exposure and trauma. It is proven that darker skin tones (types 3-6) are more prone to a darkening of pigment rather than lighter skin tones (types 1-2) due to the excess of melanin in the skin. That being said, it is harder to safely laser skin types 3-6 if scaring occurs which limits your treatment options. The laser concentrates on darker pigmentation so the laser can focus on the blemish directly on people with a lighter skin tone. Gita (NP) at Neu Look Med Spa can always meet with you for a consultation to distinguish if your skin can be “prepped” with a brightening agent before your laser appointment if you are a darker skin type.

If you are a “picker” it is never too late to stop! Here are some tips on how to distract yourself from touching or picking a blemish:

  • Do not over-examine yourself in the mirror and do not use the extra strength mirrors that show every impurity. If you cannot see it with the naked eye, neither can anyone else!
  • If you catch yourself touching a blemish, stop immediately.
  • If you feel as if you need to touch your face, if possible, try to cleanse or moisturize! Make it a productive touch instead or a harmful one.
  • Have a friend or family member that you can tell when you feel the urge to hold you accountable whether it is with a phone call or in person.
  • Keep a sticky note that says “Do not pick” on your mirror to remind you. It sounds silly but it works.
  • Get regular skin treatments to improve your skin so there will not be as many impurities to tempt you!

Call Neu Look Med Spa at 858-538-5665 to ask about our free consultations or schedule one today. We also respond to emails at info@neulookskin.com to assist you.

Mico-Needling

Mico-Needling at Neu Look Med Spa

Micro-Needling, is a treatment that we use at Neu Look Med Spa to rejuvenate the skin. The “Vampire Facial” uses the same concept but the difference is that they draw your blood, spin the plasma in a machine and then place it back on to your skin. With Micro-Needling, we use microscopic needles to create mild bleeding during the treatment, then we will massage the blood back to your skin (because your pores are already open from the light abrasions). Micro-Needling is a mildly invasive skin rejuvenation procedure which causes the body to create new collagen and elastin. We glide the pen over the skin with a peptide solution full of nutrients. This will help the skin regain tightness, firmness, reduce scaring, correct large pore size and even stretch marks. Results are typically best seen in a series of treatments; such as 3-6.

Producing The Change We Want to See

Many patients who suffer from acne and acne scaring turn to facials to correct the problem. Although we do not offer facials at Neu Look Med Spa, we know they are a wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating for the face and mind. On a medical level they are usually not strong enough to kill the bacteria that cause acne and boost enough collagen to see any major changes in scaring. We are encouraging our patients to try this more invasive treatment that we know will produce the change we want to see. We at Neu Look do not prefer to perform this service on active breakout that is on a large scale due to the spreading of bacteria but we always prescribe product or a chemical peel  (Vitalize or Rejuvinize peels) to prep you for the service. Micro-Needling also helps your skin to absorb product directly into the treated area which will help the overall appearance and health of your skin.

How Micro-Needling Helps

Micro-Needling can help to reduce and prevent premature aging. Another lesser known effect of this procedure is it helping with the reduced appearance of stretch marks. It may not completely remove the scar but it can make it shallower and less dark in color. More sessions are usually required but it has been recorded that people have seen good results over time, even with deeper set ones. At Neu Look we have Non-Ablative Fractional (ICON) technology which treats the stretch marks (if less than 6mm in width). Multiple treatments are needed for the best result and they all have minimum downtime.

Most hyperpigmentation is caused by over exposure to the sun, damage to the epidermis, inflammation or trauma. Sun damage and age spots are a stubborn issue to correct but studies have proven that Micro-Needling can help to lessen the pigment by generating new, healthy melanin evenly over the skin. This treatment prepares the skin to absorb the right medication for brightening and lightening of the skin. This treatment is even effective on patients who have darker skin tones. Some lasers can cause hyperpigmentation rather than correcting it if used incorrectly (the dark skin needs to be prepared by the lightening agents before laser treatments). In summary the rule of Micro-Needling applies to correcting wrinkles and fine lines, large pores and creates a smoother texture.

Call Neu Look Med Spa at (858) 538-5665 to book your free consultation or appointment. If you have any questions feel free to ask one of our treatment educators who would love to help you decide which treatment best suits your desired result.

Vitalize Peel vs. Rejuvenize Peel

Vitalize Peel vs. Rejuvenize Peel

Chemical Peels at Neu Look Med Spa

Chemical peels (used at Neu Look Med Spa) are prescribed for many reasons. At Neu Look they can be used for all skin types and all ages after 18. The peels penetrate to a safe but deeper layer than microdermabrasion, other mechanical exfoliations or scrubs. Peels help to rebuild collagen we have lost over time and boost our cell turnover rate. The natural cell turnover rate for the average adult is 30 to 90 days and it is every other day for a baby or small child. That is why the skin heals so much more quickly when having an abrasion when we are children. The face feels and looks better only a few days after having a peel, leaving your face with a better skin tone, improved texture and overall, a radiant glow. Chemical peels are also used for correcting adolescent and adult acne by destroying the bacteria in the skin and drying up any active breakout. Receiving routine chemical peels can help to slow the signs of aging, and in some cases, reverse some of the present signs of aging.

The Vitalize Peel by Skin Medica

The Vitalize Peel by Skin Medica has a mixture of Lactic and Salicylic Acid and then it is layered under a Retinol complex – which is optional. Just because it is called a “chemical peel” does not mean you always physically peel. Some patients do not want to peel due to work or other obligations so leaving the Retinol layer out can help to prevent you physically shedding dead skin. Instead, the peel will work internally inside the dermis.

This peel can be expected to:

  • Help correct sun damage to a small degree.* Smooth fine lines.
  • Reduces mild scarring.
  • Smoothes rough texture.
  • Improves acne conditions.

It is unrealistic to expect this peel to remove or reduce broken blood vessels, eliminate deep wrinkles or redesign your natural pore size and shape. The pores will appear to be slightly smaller and more constricted post treatment but your pore size and shape is genetic. It is impossible to shrink them contrary to popular belief. You should wait 6-8 hours (a minimum of 2-3 hours) before washing your face after receiving your Vitalize Peel at Neu Look Med Spa. This particular one is self neutralizing. Any redness or sensitivity from the peel will subside within couple hours of the application and it will also take 48 HR for flaking to begin if you request the Retinol layer. The flakiness of vitalize peel is very minimum unless is used on someone with very sensitive skin or patient with darker skin. You can do a series of this peel and receive them every 3-4 weeks if you desire. You may also apply this peel to the neck and chest to improve fine lines and blotchy discoloration such as age spots.

The Rejuvenize Peel

The Rejuvenize Peel mainly targets fine lines and texture plus acne. This peel also has Salicylic Acid along with Mandelic Acid instead of Lactic Acid so it is a little stronger. You may also request to add a Retinol layer to increase your chances of physically peeling – but this is optional. This peel can performed in 3-5 week intervals and is best with a series of 3-6 peels.

This peel can be expected to:

  • Improve your overall skin condition.
  • Diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Smooth the skins texture.
  • Improve overall clarity of the skin (subsides the appearance of Acne).

The Cosmelan Peel

It is unrealistic to expect this peel to completely remove any deep set wrinkles or remove any dark spots that are deep. It can however help to address skin tone unevenness or scaring caused by acne. The Cosmelan Peel is the only peel to date that can help to reverse major sun damage and age spots. You should also wait 6-8 hours to remove the Cosmelan 1 mask. You may experience mild redness and sensitivity but this will not subsides as quick as other peels. You may also apply this peel to the neck and chest to improve fine lines, firming the skin and pigmentation.

A Few Words of Caution

Before your chemical peel you should avoid skin exposure to the sun and tanning. You should also discontinue the use of Retinol creams, AHA’s, Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C or Bleaching creams one week prior to your appointment. We at Neu Look will prescribe you a post-peel skincare regimen for your homecare to ensure the best and prolonged results of your treatment.

Book your chemical peel today at Neu Look Med Spa by calling 858-538-5665. Ask one of our highly trained professionals any questions you may have about which peel best suites you or about any other service we offer.
