What is the Difference Between Microdermabrasion vs. Microneedling?

neulook Micro-needling ,

Many patients here at Neu Look Med Spa have experienced Microdermabrasion in the past and are curious to try MicroNeedling. According to Wikipedia, “Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.”

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical stimulant and treats only the top most layer of the skin. The result is very short term. Because Microdermabrasion is minimally invasive, there is no downtime. Usually Microdermabrasion is performed by an esthetician as part of a facial. We do not offer this treatment at Neu Look Med Spa.

Microneedling is more intense and creates very mild damage to the epidermis that causes the stimulation of collagen. This treatment can be used to rejuvenate the skin, help with size of the pores, mild wrinkles, light scars and improve skin texture overall. On average, people need a series of 3 or more treatments for the best results followed by the home regimen advised by Neu Look Staff. Because MicroNeedling is a medical treatment, it should be performed by a registered nurse, nurse practitioner or doctor.

For patients who have deeper wrinkles, acne scars and large pores, more than 3 treatments may be needed. We can combine the Microneedling with Fractional Laser for the best results. Patients must wait 3-4 weeks between Fractional Laser and Microneedling. Microneedling reaches below the top layer of your skin and creates microscopic punctures that stimulate your skin to produce more collagen. Collagen is what gives our skin its strength and elasticity. The new collagen and elastin creates firmness to the skin and can help to reduce the appearance of Acne Scars and Wrinkles.

Patients who have acne scars will need at least 5-6 treatments followed by a home regimen which includes Retin A and the right moisturizer. Results can be seen around 7-10 days after treatment and will improve up to 4-5 weeks.

Before your procedure here at Neu Look Med Spa, Gita Izadi NP will apply a topical numbing cream about 40 minutes before the treatment. This allows our patients to have a more comfortable experience. After your treatment you may experience redness, tightness, swelling and dryness for up to seven days. Gita Izadi NP recommends using a gentle cleanser, TNS Ceramide Cream, TNS Recovery Complex and a Sunblock application of SPF 50 every three hours if you are outside. Mineral Makeup can be applied the next day.
