Many patients here at Neu Look Med Spa have experienced Microdermabrasion in the past and are curious to try MicroNeedling. According to Wikipedia, “Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.” Read more “What is the Difference Between Microdermabrasion vs. Microneedling?”

Skinmedica Vitalize Peel vs Rejuvenize Peel vs Perfect Peel

Well, first things first…what exactly do peels do and who can benefit from them?

Professional chemical peels help to improve the skin imperfections that result from skin aging and sun exposure by accelerating skin exfoliation through chemical substances, resulting in renewed and healthier looking skin. They address issues such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, acne scarring, and pigment changes.

Three different peels…Which one is right for me?

  1. Skin MedicaVitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel is appropriate for mild-moderate skin imperfections. It’s also ok for any skin type. Containing retinol and salicylic/lactic acids, this peel can be done every 3-4 weeks and is the most gentle of the three types.

  1. Skin Medica Rejuvenize Peel

The Rejuvenize Peel is ideal for moderate to severe skin imperfections. Precautions are taken with patients who have darker skin types. This peel contains retinol and salicylic/mandelic/malic/phytic acids. Multiple treatments spaced out every 4-6 weeks is preferred.

  1. The Perfect Derma Peel

The Perfect Peel is a medium depth peel that contains TCA, retinoic/salicylic/kojic acid, and glutathione (a powerful antioxidant which lightens and brightens the skin, slows down the aging process, and helps prevent wrinkles). This peel is safe for all skin types and includes 2 additional peel pads to use the day after the treatment (am/pm). This peel has the most “peeling” effect of the three types of peels, usually around day 3. Treatments should be spaced out every 6 weeks.

Before a chemical peel, it’s important to avoid any skin products containing retinol, salicylic/glycolic acids, or prescription topicals. With any peel, it’s normal to experience tingling/burning during the treatment, which only lasts a few minutes. Immediately after the peel, the skin may appear yellow for no more than 2-3 hours. Mild to moderate redness is expected and the extent varies from person to person. It usually resolves completely after the peeling is complete. Peeling may be as mild as flaking or as intense as peeling in sheets, depending on the individual and which peel is used.

Due to the increased acceleration of skin and cell turnover following a peel, results are expected to include a decrease in fine lines/wrinkles/large pores, smoothness of skin texture/collagen production, evening of skin tone, improved clarity of the skin, and improvement of acne conditions and acne scarring.

Noticeable results are expected after even one peel, with more dramatic results after 3-6 treatments.

It’s important to protect your new skin after the peel with an SPF 30 or higher and avoid sun exposure for one week post treatment.

Once the skin has stopped peeling, you can resume your normal skin care regimen. For the Vitalize and Rejuvenize peels, avoid any retin-A, salicylic/glycolic acids and Vitamin C during the peeling process. For the Perfect Peel, do not use these products for at least 3 weeks after the peel.

How To Get Rid of Facial Redness?

neulook Fractional Laser
woman with cheek redness

Having Rosy Cheeks is one thing, but having ruddy, red skin is another. Do you suffer from redness around your nose and cheeks?  An IPL ( Intense Pulse Light Treatment) is often the solution we offer at Neu Look Med Spa to get rid of facial redness. Often times redness is caused by broken capillaries. Broken capillaries, commonly known as spider veins, or by medical terminology telangiectasias, are tiny blood vessels that we see on the surface of the skin,” says Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Schwartz. These can occur from sun damage, skin trauma, or are genetic. The IPL treatment helps close off the blood supply to these broken capillaries, leading to less redness.

Another concern that Neu Look Med Spa patients have is red marks left over from previous blemishes. This is typically called Post Inflammatory Pigmentation. Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) “ is an acquired hypermelanosis occurring after inflammation or injury that can arise in all skin types” according to The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology. Here at Neu Look Med Spa we use IPL to treat this condition in patients who are Skin Type 1-3. Darker or Ethnic Skin Tones are not good candidates for this treatment as the laser is attracted to dark pigment in the skin and this can lead to unwanted complications. A much more safe and effective treatment for these patients is Cosmelan. Neu Look Med Spa always encourages a consultation to find out what treatment is best for you.
