Cosmelan Peel Blog

What’s The Deal With Cosmelan?

Cosmelan is the answer to dark spots and hyper pigmentation, especially on the face. These discolorations are an aesthetic concern that most of us are facing, as we age. Instead of covering your face with heavy make-up or foundation, return your skin to its natural tone. The Cosmelan depigmentation treatment, originally developed in Spain, is very effective. The treatment targets pigmentation and melasma to soften those areas and minimizes pores.

Cosmelan improves your skin tone in a noninvasive safe manner. The process provides amazing results that other treatments can’t replicate. It’s very effective for all types of melasma. The procedure is quick and easy. The product is compatible with all skin types. The light peeling effect rejuvenates and increases collagen in the skin. Treatments can start and be used all year round. As a bonus, it’s also effective for acne patients.

These are the Cosmelan steps, according to their website:

  1. The specially formulated pigment-reduction activating mask (Cosmelan I Mask) is applied to the skin and left on for 8-10 hours. This is in great part dependent upon the amount of pigmentation as well as your skin sensitivity levels This prolonged “wearing” of the mask is a key component in stimulating the fastest response. We will apply the Cosmelan I Mask at the office.
  2. Once the development and action time is complete, you may wash the mask off. The intensive action ingredients in Cosmelan include hydroquinone and retinoic acid. Hydroquinone will staunch the pigmentation cycle while retinoic acid encourages quick cell turnover. This helps you to more quickly shed brown patches and discoloration. The combination ingredients are an excellent combination which has been shown to provide a superior removal of old pigment and suppression of new pigment.
  3. Your At-Home Cosmelan Program will consist of active-ingredient products you will use on a consistent basis to further improve pigmentation problems and prevent excess pigment formation. Your maintenance cream, Cosmelan II, will be used on a ongoing basis. This special pigment control cream contains ingredients such as Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid and a protective agent, Titanium Dioxide.
  4. Cosmelan At Home Instructions: Active ingredients include hydroquinone, retinoic acid, azelaic acid, kojic acid, arbutine, phytic acid and ascorbic acid. The Cosmelan® Depigmentation action mechanism is based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme responsible for the melanin formation process. Several of the substances present in the Cosmelan formula act by blocking this enzyme.

What To Expect

Within a week, patients will notice skin blemishes beginning to fade, and a brighter complexion is breaking through. After a couple weeks, the skin will take on a shiny, healthier glow. These results will continue to improve over the fourth or fifth week, when the full benefits of a Cosmelan Peel can be seen.
Patients who commit to a daily routine will see the smooth results from the Cosmelan Peel last for many months to come. The skin will be delicate and sensitive the first two weeks after treatment; prolonged sun exposure should be avoided and a full spectrum sunscreen should be worn at all times. We recommend the Sun-Shield Matte sunscreen, from Obagi.

According to our experience over the last 16 years at Neu look Med Spa, Cosmelan is the best for peel for high pigmentation and melasma. It corrects overproduction of Melanin and over powers the appearance of new dark spots. The dedication of the patient to the treatment plays a large role in overall lasting effects of Cosmelan. The product must be used as directed by Gita, our Nurse Practitioner, at Neu Look Med Spa and follow up visits must be scheduled to achieve the best lasting results.

How to Treat Crepey Skin

crepey skin radiesse sculptra

Does Your Skin Look Like Crepe Paper?

Is your skin starting to look thin and wrinkled? And maybe similar to crepe paper? Crepey skin can result from aging, lack of moisture, excessive weight loss and exposure to the sun. Collagen and elastin, in our skin, keep our skin tight and wrinkle-free. But the ultraviolet light in the sun’s rays break down the collagen and elastin in our skin. However, don’t fret, there is a solution to this!

Treatments for Crepey Skin

You can use Sculptra and Radiesse fillers in areas you have crepey skin. These fillers can be injected in your neck, knees, butt, arms, face, and almost any other body part you can think of. Radiesse/ Scultpra are fillers used to plump wrinkled skin or folded areas of the skin, like crepey skin. After it is injected, Radiesse/ Sculptra stimulate your natural collagen growth. This is why your immediate results, post injection, will only improve. Our Nurse Practitioner, Gita Izadi, recommends getting 2-3 Radiesse/ Sculptra treatments that are 4-6 weeks apart. This is to ensure the best results! The injectable is known to last 9-15 months but can even last up to two years when you get the correct dosage. Sculptra has been known to last up to 2-3 years depending on how many treatments your receive. Peak results for Scultpra are after the second treatment. As Gita puts it, the filler needs to be layered in order to stimulate more collagen. Radiesse/ Sculptra both work to restore facial volume and soften wrinkles and folds over time.

Radiesse/ Scultpra are both great products that stimulate collagen production and work to add volume to the areas they are injected. When you come in for a consultation, Gita will go ahead tell you which one is better for your desired results. She can also help you figure out a treatment plan that is best for you! I have seen her use Scultpra countless times for the face and chest. And I have seen her use Radiesse for hands, arms, and the neck. But these two fillers can be used interchangeably. There’s just some differences in their molecular structures.

As stated on their company website,

“Radiesse is comprised of CaHA, calcium hydroxylapatite, microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier.”

Once it is injected, Radiesse provides immediate volume and boosts the body’s natural production of collagen, for a long-lasting effect. The CaHA gel microspheres are then absorbed by the body, leaving the collagen that your body has produced. With Sculptra, it is a similar process except with PLLA which is poly-L-lactic acid, collagen stimulator. That’s why your metabolism is a huge factor in how long Radiesse lasts for you. Once the microspheres are metabolized, your collagen production will no longer be stimulated. So, if you’ve heard people claiming Radiesse isn’t lasting for them, it’s due to their body and metabolism. Fillers work differently for everyone so don’t let one person’s experience keep you from getting it done!

A Little Bit About Thread Lifts

A Little Bit About Thread Lifts - Neu Look Med Spa Skin Center San Diego California

About PDO Thread Lifts…

Have you ever debated cosmetic surgery? Maybe a mini face lift or neck lift? Well, we actually have an alternative that won’t require you to go under anesthesia. We provide Thread Lifts. We have patients get Thread Lifts for their jawlines, neck, under their eyes, eyebrows, chin and cheeks. This treatment actually lifts your skin by using PDO threads. PDO threads are polydioxanone threads that are actually used in pediatric cardiac surgery. The PDO threads are FDA approved and have a long safety track record, of over ten years. There are two types of threads, barbed and smooth. The barbed thread will lift your skin and the smooth threads will stimulate collagen.

The great thing about the PDO Thread Lifts is not only do you get instant results, but your look will actually improve because of the natural protein synthesis that occurs about two weeks after the treatment. Your appearance will continue to improve, due to the Thread Lift, and you will see peak results around 6 months after your treatment. This is due to the collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production that the threads stimulate. After about three months, the threads will dissolve, because they are biodegradable. But your results will not change because by then there will be collagen, that was produced around the thread, supporting your skin. You will continue to have the desired results!

Post Thread Life Treatment Recommendations

After your Thread Lift, it’s important to avoid heavy exercise for a week, if it causes extreme facial movements. Also, avoid chewing gum for two weeks and hard foods. Only eat soft foods for a week, and be sure to sleep on your back for at least 3-4 days. All of this is to avoid the movement of the threads. Of course, during your Thread Lift your practitioner, Gita, will position them with precision. But post care of the threads is imperative. Other things to be careful about are not having facial massages, dental appointments, and not pulling or straining your face. If you follow these steps, after your treatment, you will have optimal Thread Lift results! One common side effect, from the Thread Lift, is bruising. Ways to avoid and prevent bruising include taking Arnica, avoiding alcohol and anti-inflammatory medication 48 hours prior to your Thread Lift, and also not stressing or worrying about bruising. Even in my experience, I’ve had patients with sensitive skin not bruise after a treatment because they weren’t concerned about it. Of course, everyone’s body is different and will react differently with a Thread Lift. But those are suggestions we have to avoid bruising from the treatment.

Worry-Free Thread Lifts at Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center

If you are worried about the pain of the Thread Lift, you will be injected with lidocaine prior to the treatment. These injections will numb your face, making the Thread Lift treatment have minimal pain. So, you don’t have to have concerns about safety, pain, or bruising. And Gita has had a lot of experience doing the Thread Lift with barbed and smooth threads. Our patients are always happy with the results and if they’re not, Gita will go ahead and correct the concerns they have.

We always want our patients to be happy and satisfied! Give us a call at (858) 538-5665 to schedule a consultation or treatment appointment.
