Where Can Botox Be Injected?

Where Can Botox Be Injected? | Neu Look Med Spa & Skin Center, Botox San Diego

Where are all the areas that Botox can be injected?

Botox, is mainly used to smooth forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet, it’s becoming an increasingly popular treatment for sweating, to prevent grinding your teeth at night, Masseteric Muscle to deliver a softer face shape and lines in the neck (called neck bands). Read on to learn about different places Botox can be injected:

Botox for Sweating

Sweating: Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. It refers to any abnormal sweating, such as sweating when it’s not hot. People who sweat excessively often soak through their clothing and have dripping sweat. Regular antiperspirants don’t work well for patients with this condition. Botox injections are a new treatment option for people with hyperhidrosis. You may be a candidate for Botox if your sweating fails to improve with prescription antiperspirants. Botox has been FDA-approved for people who sweat excessively from their armpits. It may also be used to reduce sweating in other areas, such as the hands, feet, and face. Hyperhidrosis can also manifest in the hands and feet. Injecting the palms and soles works to block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. Gita, our Nurse Practitioner, will effectively dilute the Botox to stop the hyperhidrosis but not freeze your muscles.

Neck Botox

Before getting a neck lift for the skin banding that occurs as we age, consider trying Botox first. The Platysma muscle is located in the neck. As we age, it begins to tighten, forming prominent lines at the front of the neck. When these vertical bands in your neck become visible, you could be a good candidate for a non-surgical neck lift with Botox. The procedure is very quick and painless, with excellent visible results that last up to 6 months. It’s an effective treatment and upkeep of treatment for as many as 3 times a year.

Masseteric Muscle Botox

The ideal female face is perceived as delicate, smoothly contoured & oval shaped. A square jawline seen more commonly in Asians, widens the lower face and is considered masculine . In most patients, the square lower jawline is created by masseteric muscle hypertrophy.

Hypertrophy of the muscle leads to a square face and a broad jaw which is aesthetically not pleasing to most people. Botulinum toxin is injected into the enlarged masseter muscle to reduce its size giving a more oval and slim look to the face. The best results are seen only 6 to 8 weeks after the neurotoxin is injected unlike the other cosmetic indications where the results may become evident as early as even 24 hours.

Forehead Botox

Thanks to stubborn horizontal lines and expression wrinkles, the forehead is a common place to receive Botox injections. The FDA has only approved certain sites on the forehead for Botox injections. These include horizontal lines across your forehead, as well as the glabella (the “11s” between your eyes). Even though they’re approved, treatments still require caution. Using too much Botox in the forehead can cause long-lasting cosmetic damage. You should always seek out experienced professionals

Jeuveau, the “New Botox”

NEWTOX Jeauveau Evolus San Diego Neu Look

Jeuveau® — is it really the new Botox? #NEWTOX

When I heard there was a new “botox” like injectable on the market, I was elated. I’m an aesthetics fanatic. So, of course I had do to my research before I could try it and see if it was right for me.

Here is what I have found:

Jeuveau is meant to be a play on the French word “nouveau” which means “recent” or “modern” and patients will evolve with the product as they move forward in their journey towards youth. Jeuveau is actually a 900 kDa purified botulinum toxin formula type A which can temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles in adults. Jeuveau is produced following the strictest quality standards in top-notch facilities where only this specific drug is manufactured. Its safety has been evaluated through a clinical study with over 2,000 patients.

The FDA approved Jeuveau because the drug has passed two clinical trials in the U.S with double-blind placebo studies. Both trials displayed efficacy and met their primary goals by reducing the glabellar lines over a 30-day period. In those clinical trials, Jeuveau had a 65.7% success rate in the first trial and 70.4% success rate with patients in the second trial.

To sum up all the fancy scientific facts, Jeuveau is a lot like Botox. The only difference is the place its manufactured and the price point is 25% lower than Botox per unit, but of course that’s always going to change according to the different provinces and market demand.

Needless to say I wanted to try Jeuveau. Here’s my experience thus far. On August 6, 2019 I went into Neu Look Med Spa, where I had met Gita Izadi MSN, FNP, RN injector extortioner. Not only is she an artist with the needle but she is a kind and sweet soul. She made me feel extremley comfortable and listened to everything I had said even my slight worry about trying a new injectable. After the in consult I was ready to go. I received 51 units of Jeuveau injected into my glabella and forehead. The glabella area is often referred to as the 11 lines, which are in between the eyebrows.

First day after injection after Jeuveau you couldn’t tell I had anything done which is completely normal, like Botox, Jeuveau also takes 7-10 days to take effect. Three days after I was injected with Jeuveau, I did notice a slight difference. My brows where slightly raised! I was so shocked because usually with Botox it doesn’t take effect until 10 days after the injection. Within 5 days Jeuveau had taken full effect. I was in disbelief and I was also sold on a faster acting botulin injection. Now we are in close to mid- October and I am still loving Jeaveau, I have little to no movement, which I prefer but you will have your own preference. Of course I know that results are going to be different per patient. But from my experience I would recommend it.

My conclusion, if you want something faster acting and a little more cost efficient than Botox, Jeaveau is for you.

Unnatural Lips

Duck Lips…?

A couple years ago one of the biggest trends was getting huge lips, duck lips as some would call them, because of celebrities like Kylie Jenner. But now the natural look is becoming a trend again, which means there’s a lot of providers are doing lip correction procedures. It has become a more popular treatment of our facility as well. One of the biggest sayings in our spa is quality over quantity. Whether that is only doing natural styled lips with our injections, to the product that we use in the lip. A lot of the time patients who come in for lip correction have gone to facilities who do the procedure at a lower cost, are in a different country, or to providers who are not as experienced as our Nurse Practitioner, Gita. That is why we stress the experience and skill that Gita has, to all our patients who come in and ensure the high quality of the experience we provide.

Quality Over Quantity

I understand that everyone has a budget when it comes to aesthetics and cannot spend an unlimited amount of money for their fillers and lips. I completely understand that however quality over quantity once again. Your lips are one of the center points of your face and so it is imperative you go to someone who knows what they are doing. Make sure that your provider is familiar with the different lip filler products and knows which one is best for lips. On Instagram I see a lot of influencers and everyday people that get lip fillers and a popular one I have seen is Juvederm Voluma for the lip. But, as our NP Gita has stated, that product is a bit too thick for the lip area and can result in overly big lips as well as bumpy lips.

Personalized Treatments at Neu Look

When her patients come in and are unhappy with their lips, Gita always asks what their concern is with them. It ranges anywhere from their lips feel bumpy or they’re lopsided or they felt as though there wasn’t enough or too much product. The first thing that Gita always reminds our patients is that everyone is asymmetrical and so there will always be one side of your lip that differs from the other. But providers should be able to identify that and correct it rather than inject in a way that makes it more prevalent. When it comes to hyaluronic acid based fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, there is a product by the name of hyaluronidase that can melt the product. This is ideal when providers inject too much product in one area or if the lips end up bumpy. It just melts the product and you will be left with your natural lip. Once all the product is melted, you will be able to get injectables seven days after. Then Gita will be able to use the proper lip filler and inject it in a way to achieve the patient’s desires.

My Journey with Acne and Skin Treatments

acne neu look med spa skin center

My Acne Journey

My skin journey has been a long one filled with various products, skin treatments, medications, and lifestyle changes. I know the dream answer to managing your acne would be one thing. Like there is this one product that will change everything or cutting one thing from your diet would fix it but it takes more than that. Acne is a more aggressive issue than that. I have had acne since I was about 12 years old. Growing up I knew that acne was genetic but now that I have gotten older I know that besides that the biggest cause of acne is your hormones. The most important thing to managing and getting rid of acne is being consistent AND never picking at them and turning them into acne scars.

Personally, I use the Obagi Clenziderm System which is for acne prone and oily skin. With oily skin, you want to use products that will dry out the excess oil like salicylic acid, retinoic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid and retinoic acid work to unclog pores, retinoic acid also works to prevent breakouts and minimize acne and acne scars, and benzoyl peroxide works to eliminate the acne-causing bacteria. But remember, you will need a moisturizer to go along with these products. Even though salicylic acid, retinoic acid, and benzoyl peroxide are good to rid your skin on the excess oil and bacteria, they will dry out your skin. That’s why you absolutely MUST buy a good moisturizer. I would recommend either Skin Medica’s Ultra Sheer Moisturizer or Obagi’s Hydrate Luxe. Moisturizing will add the hydration back to your skin. Otherwise, when your skin dries out it will try to overcompensate, produce more oil, and result in you breaking out. The key is finding the balance between drying out the bacteria and acne but not too much so your body has to over compensate.

Favorite Treatments

Along with a great home regimen, consistent treatments such as peels, Microneedling, Dermaplanning, and acne-cortisone shots will be helpful. Microneedling and Fractional will also be effective for acne scars. Our Skin Medica Vitalize and Rejuvenize peels along with the Dermaplanning will help rid your face of the dead layer of skin, on your face. They will also help your skin develop new healthier cells. The Rejuvenize is a deeper peel that we recommend for people that have more acne and acne scars. It is more effective for tougher skin because it penetrates deeper in your skin. With the acne-cortisone shots, they are usually for huge individual zits. Our nurse practitioner will inject a diluted corticosteroid into the zit and it will start to deflate within a few hours. Like we’ve mentioned in our other blogs Microneedling and Fractional both work to resurface the texture of your skin. Microneedling will use microscopic needles to scratch the surface of your skin to promote more collagen production and soften the surface of your skin. With fractional, it is a laser that penetrates deeper into the skin and has a longer down-time than the Microneedling. Both treatments require a consistent home regimen to see the best results.

Don’t Forget About Proper Nutrition!

Last but certainly not least, a key aspect of minimized acne is the foods you eat and put into your body. Everybody’s body is different so if you really struggle with cystic and hormonal acne I would talk to a dermatologist or endocrinologist about the foods you should and should not consume. For me personally, I need to stay away from sugar and dairy but everyone is different. Everyone’s body and skin is different so try different treatments and products and see which combinations work for you!

What Is Radiesse?

Radiesse information from Neu Look Med Spa and Skin Center in San Diego, CA

Aging and Radiesse

Aging affects all parts of the body, and the hands are no exception. They used to be a sign of age prior to aesthetic companies finding ways to combat the skin aging. From loss of strength and grip, increased stiffness and lack of mobility, the hands show the signs of aging in many ways. However, one of the first signs of aging in the hands is a cosmetic concern, but one that can affect the happiness of your patients nonetheless. Lines and wrinkles develop in the hands because the skin loses its ability to retain moisture, which can lead not only veins becoming more visible with a thin, papery appearance, but it can also lead to skin becoming dry and itchy. Not even Sun Protection such as SPF can help with signs of aging on the hands but luckily we live in an aesthetically aware age where we have Radiesse.

What is it made out of?Is it safe?

Radiesse injections are generally safe, effective, non-surgical and have minimal pain, without any significant downtime. We use proven safe, gentle and easy anesthetic options for your added comfort. Younger looking hands begins immediately. However, any swelling & bruising that may occur masks final results until gone. To minimize bruising and swelling from Radiesse, avoid aspirin & aspirin containing products for at least one week prior to Radiesse hands injections. And if possible avoid ibuprofen for 3 days prior to Radiesse hands injections. Avoid other blood thinners per your prescribing physician’s recommendation. Contraindications include allergy to Radiesse, pregnancy and nursing and significant bleeding disorders. We avoid any infected skin until healed so be sure to inform the practitioner prior to coming in, if this applies to you. The most common side effects are bruising, redness, swelling, pain and itching. Reversible lumps or bumps have been rarely reported to occur. Serious adverse events are rare, but may include tissue damage from unintended intravascular injection, allergic reaction and infection. Minimize strenuous activity and avoid extensive sun or heat exposure for 24 hours after Radiesse injections and until any swelling or redness has resolved. Ice, cold packs and ibuprofen may be used after injections as needed. Results usually last from 1 to 2 years or sometimes, longer. It differs per person due to their lifestyle, environment, and metabolism.
However, you can always use the following to try to get the longest possible out of your pricey filler. Overexposure to the sun’s UV rays reverse the benefits of your injectable treatment. This is why we encourage all filler patients to practice sound sun protection, especially post-treatment. Maintain your results longer by using a high quality broad-spectrum sunscreen, avoiding the outdoors during peak UV hours and applying sunscreen every 2 hours. Limiting your body’s stress is another way to lengthen the effect of your filler. Use these steps and tips in order to have the best Radiesse experience!
