Acne Scar Treatments

Did you have acne growing up? Did the acne clear up and you’re now left with acne scars on your face?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, this is the blog to read to know how to minimize them.

There are two treatments that can truly help change the texture of your skin and lessen the appearance of acne scars. The names of them are Microneedling and Fractional Laser.

Microneedling for Acne Scars

The microneedling treatment we offer here at Neu Look Med Spa is with the Rejuvapen. It uses nine microscopic needles to gently scratch the surface of the patient’s skin. In other words, the microneedling treatment “creates micro channels in the skin to stimulate the skin’s natural ability to heal itself and produce collagen and elastin” (WIFH).

It might sound rough because you hear the word needle; however numbing cream is applied an hour prior to your microneedling treatment. To be honest with you, it feels more like a face massage.

A huge component of this treatment is to get multiple microneedling treatments. You will see more of a result by doing so. Post-treatment you can expect to be red for a few days. You will also feel heat and slight burning on your face but as soon as you do, you can apply TNS Ceramide Treatment cream that will instantly calm your skin down.

The day after your microneedling treatment, you can apply makeup to cover up the redness. If you choose to do so, make sure you use mineral makeup. The brand we recommend to our patients is Jane Iredale, and we are positive this is good for your skin, not only after treatments, but on a daily basis.

Fractional Laser Treatment for Acne Scars

Although many patients love the microneedling treatment for their acne scars, the fractional laser treatment typically shows more amplified results. If you have extremely deep acne scars, our Nurse Practitioner, Gita, recommends the fractional laser treatment. The pain is slightly higher for this procedure, but the results are usually more noticeable, so many patients are willing to endure it.

An hour prior to the treatment, you will be required to numb your face, which will help ease the pain. After it settles, you will then come in to our facility and Gita will laser your face.
“This laser delivers light to the skin through an array of high precision microbeams that penetrate the skin deep into the dermis” (Palomar). It essentially helps the skin repair itself and regenerate new healthy skin. Many patients notice a huge change in the texture of their skin after just their first fractional laser treatment. It becomes much softer, and the appearance of acne scars decrease.

Post-treatment you can expect to be red a little longer than the microneedling treatment. After the first couple of days, it will simply look like a sunburn. Once again, you can cover it up with mineral makeup. Similarly to the microneedling treatment, with the fractional treatment, it is imperative to use TNS Ceramide Treatment cream to help calm down your skin.

Using a combination of these two laser treatments, as well as a great home skin care regimen, the appearance of your acne scars can decrease tremendously. It’s important to keep in mind that this isn’t something that will change overnight or after one treatment. But complying with all the advice and treatments Gita, the Nurse Practitioner, recommends, can help to eliminate those acne scars so you can get back to feeling more confident in your skin.
