What to Expect
Because Juvederm® XC is a nonsurgical treatment, it requires little to no recovery time. Most patients resume normal activities immediately, and results are visible right away.*

Before You Go
To reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site, avoid any medications that prolong bleeding — such as aspirin or NSAIDs — for at least a week prior. Ask your provider for specific guidance based on your needs.
Determining Your Needs
If your provider determines Juvederm® XC is right for you, they’ll examine your facial tissue and assess the depth of your wrinkles and folds. They may even take pre-treatment photos to help evaluate your results afterward.
Based on your needs, your provider will choose between:
- Juvederm® Ultra XC – for moderate volume loss and wrinkle smoothing

The Treatment
Most patients do not require additional anesthesia thanks to the built-in lidocaine. However, your provider may still apply a topical numbing agent for added comfort.

Pre-Treatment
- No alcohol or fish oil 24 hours prior to treatment
- Stop taking anti-inflammatory medication (e.g., ibuprofen) 24–48 hours prior
- Consider taking Arnica one day before your appointment
- If you’ve previously had facial cold sores, notify your provider
Post-Treatment
- Eat vitamin C–rich foods (e.g., pineapples, oranges)
- Continue Arnica to reduce bruising
- Avoid heat-related activities like saunas or steam rooms for one week
- Do not wax the treated area for two weeks
- Do not massage the treated area
- Expect mild to moderate swelling or bruising at the injection site — this is normal and temporary
