What is Fractional Laser Therapy?
Fractional Laser Therapy is a groundbreaking skin rejuvenation treatment that targets both the outer (epidermis) and inner (dermis) layers of the skin in a single session. By heating these layers, the treatment stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, promoting skin remodeling and repair. This results in improved skin texture and tone, with noticeably smoother, firmer skin over time.
Unlike fully ablative lasers, Fractional Laser Therapy treats only about 30% of the dermis per session, which makes it significantly less intense and allows for quicker recovery. At Neu Look Med Spa, we recommend a series of three treatments spaced one month apart for optimal results. We proudly use the advanced Palomar Icon laser for our procedures.
Who is a Good Candidate for Fractional Laser?
Fractional Laser Therapy is ideal for individuals seeking to reduce the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Thin, crepey skin
It’s a fantastic treatment for anyone wanting to improve overall skin tone and texture—especially those looking to complement their injectable treatments with something that works on skin quality from the inside out.
For patients with darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV and V), we may recommend pre-treatment with hydroquinone to minimize the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Some patients may not be suitable candidates depending on their skin tone and sensitivity, but Neu Look offers other equally effective treatments tailored to all skin types.
Important note: If you have a big event or celebration planned within 3–5 days after treatment, it’s best to wait until your schedule is clear to allow proper healing time.
What to Expect During Your Fractional Laser Appointment
Here’s a step-by-step look at what your Fractional Laser journey will look like:
- Consultation: New patients begin with a skin assessment to ensure Fractional Laser is right for you.
- Preparation: Avoid alcohol at least 24 hours before your session and discontinue retinol use 48 hours in advance. Stay out of the sun—skin that is sunburned cannot be treated.
- Numbing: You’ll be given a prescription-strength numbing cream containing benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine. Apply it one hour before your appointment for maximum comfort.
- Treatment: Once you arrive, your provider will remove the numbing cream, take photos for documentation, and have you wear protective eyewear. The procedure involves two passes: one targeting deeper layers, and a second focusing on the skin’s surface.
Post-Treatment Care and Recovery
Following your procedure, the numbing sensation will wear off gradually and may feel similar to “pins and needles.” You’ll be advised to apply ice packs for the next 3 hours and use TNS Ceramide (available at Neu Look) to soothe and protect the skin.
Expect redness for 1–2 days—this typically feels like a mild sunburn. Mild flaking or small breakouts are normal during the recovery process. With proper post-care, your skin will heal beautifully and reveal smoother, healthier-looking skin in the days to follow.
