With so many options, it can be very confusing to know what product is the best.
Here at Neu Look Med Spa, Gita Izadi NP always wants to provide our patients with knowledge on their Filler options so together you can make the best choice for your lip augmentation. Lip Injections are primarily done using a Hyaluronic Acid based filler. Hyaluronic Acid, according to Wikipedia, is “is an important component of articular cartilage in the body and is also a major component of skin, where it is involved in tissue repair.”
Because Hyaluronic Acid is something that is naturally produced by our bodies, it is the most widely used injectable filler for the lip area. It has little to no side effects and provides the most natural looking lip augmentation. Here is a breakdown of the differences between these Hyaluronic Fillers.

Juvederm Ultra Plus
– This Hyaluronic based product from Allergan is one of the most popular fillers. It comes in a 1 cc Syringe which is the equivalent to ¼ of a teaspoon of actual product. This lip filler is recommended to patients who are looking for increased volume and fullness to their lips. Common side effects include temporary swelling, bruising and tenderness in the lip area. Most patients find that after 5-7 days these side effects are gone.

Restylane
– This Hyaluronic based product is from Galderma. It comes in a 1 cc syringe. Restylane has a more delicate feel to it. This lip filler is recommended to patients who want to fill fine lines around the mouth and are looking for subtle enhancement of their lips. Also a great choice for patients who are scared of looking overdone. Common side effects include swelling, bruising and tenderness for 5-7 days.

Juvederm Volbella
– This Hyaluronic based product is from Allergan. One of the newer fillers to be added to the Juvederm family, Volbella comes in a ½ cc syringe and a 1 cc syringe. Patients who have never experienced fillers , seem to feel most comfortable starting with Volbella in their lips. A ½ cc syringe of Volbella will create a very subtle fullness. Some patients have compared the results as similar to having a lip plumping gloss on. Now Volbella is available in a 1cc syringe allowing Gita Izadi to provide more fullness but still in a very elegant way. Side effects include swelling, bruising and tenderness for 5-7 days.
Most lip fillers last anywhere from 6- 12 months. With Volbella and Restylane you may find 6 months is the average time before a touch up is needed. Juvederm Ultra tends to last closer to 12 months.

If you are looking to increase your lip volume a lot more, remember that multiple syringes are needed. Gita Izadi, NP believes in doing this over several sessions as to not distort your own natural lip shape. Gita believes in a natural looking enhancement!
For your own comfort, Gita will apply a topical numbing cream 15 minutes before your injection. The Hyaluronic Fillers also have lidocaine in them to help with the discomfort.
