Can I Expect to Bruise When I Receive Injectables?
There are hundreds of blood vessels and branches of vessels in the face and neck. Injectables are placed with needles of different sizes and functions specific to the treatment. The needles are placed in different planes of the face and tissues depending on the area of treatment. Some people are more vascular in some areas than others, and each individual vascular structure is different. At Neu Look, our providers are well-versed in the underlying anatomical structures of the body. However, similar to other medical procedures, it is normal to experience some bruising during or after your procedure.
Is It Dangerous to Bruise After Injection?
It is important to remember that veins bring deoxygenated blood from the body, and arteries bring oxygenated blood to the body. A bruise indicates that there is plenty of blood supply to that area. While administering filler, we are conscious of the location of the arteries, as they bring oxygenated blood to the tissue. A blocked artery, however, will decrease the blood flow to the area, causing the area to look pale.
Although rare, these incidents do happen. They are typically seen in patients who order black-market filler products online and attempt to inject themselves, or from uncertified injectors. This is why it matters who you receive injectables from. They should be a licensed RN, NP, PA, MD, or DO. At Neu Look, our providers are experienced and knowledgeable practitioners who take injecting very seriously.
How Can I Prevent or Improve a Bruise?
You are more likely to bruise if you have a bleeding disorder, are taking blood-thinning medications, have taken fish oil, or have consumed alcohol within the two days preceding your visit. We recommend avoiding alcohol or blood-thinning supplements two days before your visit. Always speak to your primary care provider or specialist before stopping any prescribed medications. To get rid of bruising more quickly, we recommend applying ice to the area and using arnica.
What Should I Do If I Notice Bruising After My Visit?
Don’t panic! Bruising is normal and will go away. Apply ice and use arnica as indicated. If you have any questions, you can always contact Neu Look at (858) 538-5665.
